31 Days of Freebies – Day 1: Open Office

by: Frugal Michael Friday, January 1st, 2010

Gone Frugal 31 Days of Freebies Day 1 For the first freebie of the New Year, we bring you Open Office – the open source software suite that is free and surprisingly full-featured.  Created as a cost effective alternative to the perpetually expensive Microsoft Office Suite, Open Office has become increasingly feature rich and easier to use than ever before.

The best part of all is that Open Office doesn’t eat your computer’s resources without giving you a say in the matter.  Because it is open source product (originally created by Sun Microsystems in 2000) there are thousands of developers collaborating on new extensions and there are always improvements in the works.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget that Open Office is 100% free.  To download your free copy, click here or click the image below:

I personally tend to favour SSuite Office’s range of free office suites.

Their software also don’t need to run on Java or .NET, like so many open source office suites, so it makes their applications very small and efficient.
